Boston Outer Island
Tour the graves
This trip is 14 nautical miles with a number of open water crossings. If we happen to pass the Graves, do not panic, Northern Ireland is just a stones -throw away, as it is the closest point of land east! The Graves is a small outcrop of jagged rock, beneath a spectacular 113ft granite lighthouse, used as the setting for the 1947 filming of “Portrait of Jennie.” The seas here can be rough and unfriendly. If conditions are too severe and unsafe, we will change the destination to one of the many other areas in Boston Harbor.
We will meet at our Hingham Store, and then drive as a group to Windmill Point, 15 minutes away.
Cost $110
Intermediate paddlers only please.
You must provide your own kayak that has both a front and rear bulkhead, and is at least 16 feet long.
You must have experience negotiating 3ft. seas and up to 15 knots of wind to take this trip.
