Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area Exploration
Boston Harbor is one of the finest natural harbors on the Eastern Seaboard. It offers great recreational opportunities as well as being the site of some amazing stories of natural and cultural history.
Here you can camp overnight on islands where wild grapes, American Oystercatchers, and ospreys thrive close by a major metropolitan area. Here you can explore a harbor with one of the most remarkable ecological recovery stories of the last 100 years, and here you can learn about the pivotal role this harbor has played in the history of the USA.
Join us as we stay overnight in the Harbor Islands at waterfront campsites with composting toilet facilities and fabulous views. We will launch from a protected location in Hingham Harbor and wend our way out to the islands where we will make our base camp for the evening. After a hearty camping stove cooked meal lit by headlamps and lanterns, you can relax and enjoy the musical sound of waves breaking on the beaches out in your “front yard for the night”. We might go for a night paddle and look for bioluminescence in the clear dark waters below your boat, or just relax on the island and enjoy the view of Boston Harbor Light and Worlds End. After a leisurely breakfast the following morning, we will explore the island for a while and then pack up our gear before heading back to land in Hingham.
